Toshiba Carbon Zero Scheme

Toshiba is an industry leader and supports 14 of the 17 sustainable development goals in order to help companies operate in more environmentally conscious manners. Toshiba makes a great effort to eliminate emissions by creating eco-conscious products. The Toshiba Carbon Zero scheme was created in an attempt to offset the entire lifecycle of the range of products and to ensure that the company does its bit to take care of the planet. This scheme allows Toshiba to reduce CO₂ all over the world and not just in the Toshiba manufacturing countries.

How does the Toshiba Carbon Zero Scheme Work?

When you buy a Toshiba product, you’re helping to protect the environment. Toshiba partnered with carbon offsetting experts, CO2balance, to combat CO₂ emissions around the world through ethically-minded and environmentally-conscious projects in businesses and communities.

In Kenya, the organization supports the African Energy Efficient Stoves Project to provide fuel-efficient cooking stoves to the country’s poorest regions. Each stove prevents an average of 3 tonnes of CO₂ from being emitted each year. It also cuts the amount of wood fuel used in half, and reduces local deforestation, resulting in the protection of wildlife.

In Uganda, Toshiba is repairing boreholes to deliver clean drinking water through the Borehole Rehabilitation Project. The project works with local communities to identify and repair boreholes, reducing the distance between clean water and the people who need it most. It also eliminates the need to boil contaminants from the water. This leads to a decrease in emissions.

In the Brazilian Amazon, the project protects the rainforest by avoiding deforestation and encouraging sustainable forestry management. Trees are not only critical for the absorption and removal of CO₂ from the atmosphere, but they also support a rich biodiversity of fauna and flora. These products, along with carbon-aware manufacturing principles, have contributed to a major milestone. In Brazil, Toshiba offset enough carbon to run 362 705 light bulbs for a year.

In Kenya, Toshiba built more than 8000 new stoves were built by Toshiba in Kenya and in Uganda more than 110 000 000l of clean drinking water was provided.

The impact of the Carbon Zero Scheme

All of this adds up to offset the equivalent of 500 000 tones of CO₂ from our planet. The best part of this scheme is that each product sold contributes to these projects all over the world to ensure that Toshiba products don’t cost the earth. This means that when you buy a Toshiba copier or printer, you enable Toshiba to lend a helping hand somewhere else where it matters.
